Coffee in the
morning and the best view in the world for free! |
 |
After breakfast we
broke camp and started back to the other side of the lake.
Ask us about wading barefoot with our packs on across the feeder
stream's rocky bottom AND chilly water! |
 |
Michelle bids adieu
to Lake Ediza. |
 |
Yup - after that
first day Michelle and Rory realized that Sierra could be
quite an extra load. Rory and I ended up with packs that
were 50% heavier than normal (yuk) so Michelle could travel light
and carry Sierra as needed.
They decided to head
back and find a camp site for all somewhere around the 1/2 way
point - Shadow Lake area , while the rest of us trekked (no packs)
up higher to Iceberg Lake. |
 |
Heather, Ashley,
Michelle, Sierra and Rory just before the two groups split up for
the afternoon. We had two way radios with a 2 mile range and
agreed to start trying to talk to each other after 1:30 PM when we
would be heading down after them. |
 |
Heather and Ashley
became the "achoo" friends to little Sierra. Here she is
making them a goodbye face. "See you later, Achoo friends" |
 |
Heading up the side
trail to Iceberg lake. |
 |
As the group keeps
climbing, the scenery gets more impressive. |
 |
A view of Lake Ediza,
now below us. |
 |
Jim and Mary Ann
looking sharp and healthy! |

"John Muir" Johnson
- King of the Sierra's! |
 |
The gang getting
higher up the trail. |
 |
As we climbed even
higher, Ashley and Heather got to play in the occasional patch of
snow. (This is JULY folks!) Their surprise snow ball
attacks were NOT expected by us older, more mature folks. (Yes -
we got em back real good!) |
 |
We have arrived! |
 |
At Iceberg Lake.
Yes, that is supposed to be ancient glacial snow. |
 |
Yeah. Don't
you see that old snow over there? |

Ashley and Doug with
his rock art |

Rock art by Doug
left at Iceberg Lake entrance. |
 |
That night we spent
the night on a plateau just above Shadow Lake. Found a wide
flat rock and logs for seats to use as a card table! (Bob,
Ashley, Doug, Heather, Sierra.) |
 |
Awesome sunset.
Bob, Heather,
Michelle, Sierra and Ashley.
