Final Flo-Jo training run
- Aliso Woods to Top of the World
As
soon as we got to the top gramps spotted 200 goats at the Top of
the World!
Sierra was entranced, but couldn't pet them because they are
contained by a high voltage electric fence.
The
city of Laguna Beach has been using goats ever since the
disastrous October 1993 fires to clear the top part of the hills
of all vegetation that could become combustible in the dry season.
The house I owned on Skyline Drive when Michelle was born was one
of the homes that was totally destroyed in that fire. We
sold it in 1976.
Lots
of goats!
One
pair of goats was butting their heads together for some 10 minutes
of combat. The other goats around them, like this friendly
pair, weren't even paying attention.
Bye,
bye goats. Next we went to the park. The plan was that
I wanted to get some extra training distance in and would head off
immediately to the far Cholla trail while Michelle stayed with
Sierra at the park for 20 minutes or so. First time we used
two way radios to stay in contact. Great fun. I figured I
got in about 14 miles total. Apparently, Sierra came running
to get me and never played in the park. So Michelle and her
walked and ran to the Mathis trail earlier than planned.
After the run and breakfast at the original Pancake House we drove
to El Toro to pick up our Flo-Jo race registration materials.
We quickly found our friend and volunteer Vicki Davis who with her
husband put on the Winter Trail Running Series in the Ortega
Mountains that Michelle and I so love.
