Later that same
afternoon we took and easy hike up to a lovely alpine meadow that
Bob & Dick discovered.
Rested Grandpa Doug and Sierra head up the trail.
Sierra by a pond up in the meadow.
The view of our campsite area before we left the trail.
Sierra inspects some alpine flowers.
Mom & Sierra racing cross the meadow.
"Grandpa -do you like my mountains?"
Michelle & Sierra by the pond.
One more great view of the majestic lake and mountains.
Don't worry Grandpa, I can make it!
At the top of that granite slab.
I am Sierra.... This place is all MINE! Hope you enjoy it.
Please don't ever bring any telemarketers out here!
A perfect reflection in a perfectly calm lake.
Day 4 -Wednesday August
10, 2005
Since we abandoned our up & over
plans for a loop trip ANDbecause of the multitude of
mosquitoes, we left two days early and backtracked the 8 miles to Devil's
Postpile.
The last of the snow as we head down.
Dave & Sierra take a break by the cascading water slides.
Dave doing some trail run testing with Sierra's FlashPack. Dave
bought one and used it during his Wasatch 100 mile run a few weeks later.
Great lightweight nylon pack with lots of room and many pockets.
Dave had spray OFF that helped keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Doug was an unhappy blood donor. Fortunately the squeeters
loved him so much that they left Sierra alone. She did not have a
single bite! Michelle just had a few.
Juicy filet of Doug was the featured choice at the the El Mosquito
restaurant!
One of the
reasons we always wait to go backpacking until August is because these
evil bugs are usually long gone. They hit their peak in June and
early July. Unfortunately the heavy rains this year and late snows
shifted that.
