Sunday January 26th, 2003.
Anke's granddaughter
Nina and Mom Kendra came over for a visit.
Nina is a very
photogenic 9 month old - couldn't pass up trying to get a few nice
portrait shots!
Is that a tear? I
must have scared her. |
 |
That's better! |
 |
Now that is a good
laugh! |
 |
Adorable! |
 |
What a cutie pie! |
 |
Anke with daughter
Kendra. Out
for a final Florida Gulf of Mexico sunset on Sunday, January 26th. |
 |
Karen enjoying the
sunset over the Gulf.
Lots of seabirds on
the shore. |
 |
Doug, Anke and
little Nina getting ready for the sunset.
Another Florida
night that jackets were required. |
 |
Doug Schumann and
Nina. |
 |
I got Dr. Len Glaser
to run back and forth right as the sun set for some action shots.
Len was much better
trained for the Half Marathon than Doug or myself - he could still
jog along without hurting! |
 |
Swoosh! There
goes Len again! |
 |
Bob Hauseman had a
better idea for a sunset picture. Hilarious! The perfect
Super Bowl Bud Light commercial! |
 |
That's it folks.....
and we still haven't seen the infamous green flash. |
 |
Monday January
27th and time to fly back up to Connecticut.
Len flew commercial
and was up before 5 AM to catch his 6 AM flight. We got
airborne at 10:02 AM. |
 |
Front view of Doug's
twin engine Citation Jet. |
 |
Anke stops for a
quick smile before boarding. |
 |
Doug is loading all
our luggage in the aft storage compartment. |
 |
Airborne and
climbing up to 41,000 feet for the short ride home. |
 |
Once we were up at
41,000 feet, I could see ACROSS the full width of Florida - the
Atlantic Coast and the Gulf Coast simultaneously. |
 |
Bob and Karen are
relaxing like seasoned jet setters! |
 |
Bob Hauseman
enjoying the smooth ride at 41,000 feet. |
 |
View of Cape Fear,
North Carolina on the right as we approach Wilmington. |
 |
Approaching Long
Island, New York. You can see Long Island Sound and the
coast of Connecticut beyond. |
 |
New Haven, CT on the
left as Doug descends towards Bristol, Connecticut. We
touched down at 1:20 PM. A 3 hour 20 minute flight!
Len's flight that
started at 6 AM was not due in until about 3:30 PM! |
 |
After landing Doug
and I went to
P-Q Controls to check in. That night the four of us went to
Bertucci's - a nice Italian restaurant. Hot tubbed it later!
Tuesday January 28th
- another 2 degree above zero morning. |
 |
Doug's beautiful
view of the valley all covered with snow. |
 |
Doug and I went to
the plant, then met Karen and Anke for lunch. Then off to
Hartford and our United Airlines commercial flight to California
with one stop at O'Hare Airport in Chicago. |
 |
Yes - a pretty
heavy snow storm greeted us after popping down out of the soup in
Chicago! |
 |
The food truck
people go to work as snow accumulates everywhere. |
 |
Distortion in the
picture is due to the red tinted deicing fluid being sprayed all
over the aircraft minutes before leaving our gate. You can
see the robot arm in action above the wing.
Twice while taxiing,
the First Officer came out of the cockpit, walked to the wing area
and carefully looked out the left and right side windows to
inspect the wing surfaces for new icing. |
 |
The O'Hare control
tower and all the other planes are barely visible in the snow.
We took off just fine and were on our way back to California.
Got to see a good Sci-Fi movie on the way home - "Simone" with Al
Pacino. |
 |
John Wayne terminal
just as we are ready to touch down. Clear as a bell and NO
snow. No big deal as it NEVER snows in Newport Beach!
Our wonderful
adventure trip was all over.
L
Doug Schumann-
Thank you again. |
